What is pcx?

The PCX extension is a bitmap graphic raster image file by ZSoft and has become one of the original bitmap formats for DOS and Windows. It supports both 24-bit, 8-bit and 1-bit images and compresses them using the RLE encoding. This extension has been replaced by newer formats, but can still be found on multiple occassions such as fax and scanning machines. Mime type: application/pcx, application/x-pcx, image/pcx, image/x-pc-paintbrush, image/x-pcx, zz-application/zz-winassoc-pcx
