What is apng?

The APNG file, short for Animated Portable Network Graphic, is an image file that contains multiple frames of PNG image files, which is used for an animation sequence (similar to animated GIF files). The difference is that the APNG file has support for 24-bit images and 8-bit transparency. Because the APNG file is saved as a normal PNG image (it also oftenly uses the PNG extenstion), APNG files are backwards compatible with a lot of software programs that support PNG files

What is ppm?

PPM, short for Portable Pixelmap, is an image graphic file that contains 24-bit colour data that has been formatted to a text format that assigns a number to each pixel, ranging from 0 to 65536. Besides the colour information, it stores the images dimensions, whitespace and max. colour value. It is often considered an inefficient format compared to other bitmap format as it doesn’t make use of compression, making it difficult to use for large images.
