What is adts?

The ADTS extension, short for Audio Data Transport Stream, which (as the name says) transports audio data and acts as a carrier for AAC encoded audio. An ADTS file contains a series of frames, whereas each frame has a header and is followed by the AAC audio data. The formats are defined in MPEG-2 Part 7, but are only considered informative by MPEG-4.

It is used for the storage of audio and video storage but can also used to store subtitle data.
