PPM, short for Portable Pixelmap, is an image graphic file that contains 24-bit colour data that has been formatted to a text format that assigns a number to each pixel, ranging from 0 to 65536. Besides the colour information, it stores the images dimensions, whitespace and max. colour value. It is often considered an inefficient format compared to other bitmap format as it doesn’t make use of compression, making it difficult to use for large images.
