The 3GP file format is a multimedia file dat is associated with ‘3GPP‘. This and 3GPP2 are considered the new standards for the creation, delivery and playback op multimedia over high-speed networks. It consists for three objects: a header, a data object and an optional index object that can help with the access to the data within the file. Because of it’s non-dependent form and the open file format, the ASF file is used by a number of programs such as Ashampoo Media Player, VideoFile, Cliprex Video, IrfanView, MMJB, SlowView, Ultraplayer and Winamp.

The WMA file format stands for ‘Windows Media Audio’. Microsoft developed this format to compete against the rapidly growing more popular mp3 format. WMA is intended primarily for streaming at low bandwidths. A big difference with other formats such as MP3 and OGG is the potential use of DRM. DRM is a controversial technique that limits the possibilities for users to copy, edit, and open etc. the file due to copyrights.
