The XPS file type is mainly associated with Microsoft. XPS, previously known under codename Metro, is a specification for a page description language and a file format originally developed by Microsoft. Documents are shown exactly as how they will be printed ( just like the PDF format). The file type itself is based on XML and is basically a zipped XML file. It was first shipped with Windows Vista and is pre-installed on newer Windows versions.
