The WEBP file format stands for ‘Web Browsers Raster image format’ which is developed by Google for web graphics. It was designed to reduce image file sizes while maintaining the same or similar quality over standard JPEG compression. This allows images to be (down)loaded faster on websites. It is not supported by all browsers yet. Only Google’s browser ( Chrome ), Opera and the default Android Browser support it at this time ( Source ). Note: Windows and Photoshop require a plugin to be able to views these kind of images.
