The DVR-MS file, short for Digital Video Recording from Microsoft, is a format used for the storage of recorded television content. It enables standard DVR functions as time-shifting, pausing and allows recording and playback to be used simultaneously. The video is encoded as MPEG-2 and the audio as MPEG-1 layer II. Windows Media player is one of the most common applications that plays a DVR-MS file.
