The AVCHD file format, short for Advanced Video Coding High Definition, is a high-definition video file that is a file-based format for digital recording and the playback of HD video. The AVCHD format was introduced in 2006 by Sony and Panasonic for the use in HD camcorders and is a consumer alternative to the HDV format. However, the playback of the AVCHD format is not supported by all Blu-ray players since it is not part of the Blu-ray disc specification.
