What is wmf?

The WMF is a graphic format created by Microsoft in the early 1990’s. It stands for ‘Windows Metafile’ and may contain both vector graphics and bitmap components. It was designed and used before the rise of the internet. When the internet came up widely used formats like GIF and JPEG resulted in lower popularity for WMF. What is fits?

The FITS file extension, short for Flexible Image Transport System is the data format used within astronomy for transporting, analyzing and archiving of scientific data files. It is much more than the more common JPG or GIF extensions in a way that it is developed to store scientific data  such as multidimensional arrays and two dimensional tables with information.
